The Long Way Around Was the Fastest

On March 1, 2026, I joined the Department of Computer Engineering at Daejeon University as an assistant professor.

During my postdoctoral years, I applied for several faculty positions, but none worked out. I was exhausted and, for a while, wondered whether academia was still the right path for me.

At some point I stopped chasing the title and started immersing myself in AI itself. I became convinced that LLMs could drive meaningful change, and at Sayberry Games I began building AI-powered games directly.

Once the goal changed from “becoming a professor” to “building something genuinely interesting,” the direction became much clearer. Designing LLM systems in practice and solving problems with AI in an industrial setting gave me a different set of experiences and evidence to bring to research and teaching.

The company environment, however, limited participation in government-funded and individual research programs. Continuing research seriously required a change of setting, which led me to pursue a faculty position again.

In the end, the period when I stepped away from the faculty path and focused on AI and game development became my strongest point of differentiation. It reminded me that sometimes the long way around really is the fastest route.

Current Project

I am developing the following solo game through an AI-assisted development workflow.

Hexagon Soup on Steam

If you have a Steam account, I would greatly appreciate a wishlist.

Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way.
